There are lots of different categories of VSTs to choose from even but I'll list the ones I'm currently messing around with to try and hone my craft and improve my productions.
Just because everyone uses the same VSTs doesn't mean that everyone uses them the same way or in the same combination of other plugins or instruments.
Technology really lets you push the boundaries of what was possible even just 10 years ago and I don't think it's fair for producers to categorize certain plugins or methods as cheating or untalented.
If it works and lets you express your creative imagination in a way that reaches the listener in the way you intended and beyond that, then I think you did your job well.
